Our History

The European Chromosome 11q Network was founded in 1997 by Annet van Betuw and her husband Rob Jongman.

The first meeting took place in Ede, The Netherlands in March 1998 and 17 families from Holland, Germany, Italy, UK, Belgium, Norway and Denmark joined the conference. For most of them it was the first time they met other 11q children and families.

This was the first step in a long and very exciting journey towards the European Chromosome 11 Network as we are called today.

Annet was our dedicated president for the first decade and she did a tremendous and admirable effort to make chromosome 11 disorders known in the healthcare system and in other organisations all over Europe and in the USA.

In the past many of the families in the network have met at the conferences which were held in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2007 and 2009.
