Donate to research on heart diseases
Dr. Paul Grossfeld and his team at Rady Children's Hospital (USA) are investigating the genetic causes of Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), a deadly congenital heart defect. HLHS is a leading cause of death in babies with congenital heart disease.
These babies need surgery within days of birth and often require heart transplants later. Dr. Grossfeld's lab aims to understand HLHS mechanisms, develop better therapies, and identify preventive strategies.
The team has identified the ETS-1 gene, which causes HLHS in patients with Jacobsen Syndrome (5% of patients with JS also have HLHS). Understanding this gene's role could unlock HLHS's mysteries and lead to broader insights. Their work may soon enable early prediction of HLHS prognosis and personalized treatment strategies.
Supporting the Dr. Paul Grossfeld Heart Research Fund will accelerate this crucial work and offer hope to affected families.
Dr. Grossfeld has been a long-time partner and medical advisor of our Network, with deep knowledge of the Chromosome 11 community worldwide. We are happy to support his research.
